Independent sports counsel

Basketball law.
Personal counsel.

A move between clubs or leagues can require a consequential decision within a short period. I advise basketball players, clubs and agents on the contractual and commercial terms of those moves, including arrangements involving several countries.

Basketball law & advisory

Across clubs and leagues.
With clear obligations.

I advise players before signing and when contractual difficulties arise, clubs on negotiations and disputes, and agents on representation terms and international placements.

01

Player contracts & international moves

I review and negotiate salary, bonuses, release arrangements, injury provisions and termination rights. Each term is assessed in the context of the agreement as a whole and the proposed move, with attention to the allocation of contractual risk.

02

Representation & sponsorship

Representation and sponsorship commitments may continue beyond a single season. I examine authority, exclusivity, duration and continuing obligations, explaining how they could affect future negotiations and commercial opportunities.

03

Payment & contractual disputes

When remuneration remains unpaid or a contract ends prematurely, I examine the agreement and the evidence. The dispute-resolution clause, correspondence and procedural deadlines inform my advice on the available options.

Discuss your matter

Tell me the circumstances.
We can discuss the options.

I welcome enquiries worldwide. Where a matter involves several countries, I consider the governing law, jurisdiction and any need for local counsel before agreeing the scope of work.

Useful details for your enquiry

  • The player, club or agency concerned and your role
  • The league and countries connected with the matter
  • The contractual issue and what has happened so far
  • Any signing, payment or dispute-related deadline

A concise account of the matter is sufficient for an initial discussion. We can then agree how to share any confidential documents and, if I can assist, establish the scope and terms of the engagement.
